Detox soup easy recipe Dr. Nalini's version with added healing herbs

To make a pot ful of soup which at this time of year can last 5 days in the refrigerator.

1 tablespoonful olive oil
1 chopped small onion, any kind yellow, whie or red
1 tsf of minced garlic
1 red or green or yellow bell pepper
1 small zucchini
1 small 8 oz packet of chopped mushrooms
A 15 or 16 oz can of garbanzo beans or black beans or red kidney beans.
A46 oz bottle of V8 vegetable juice
Healthy herbs I use in making this soup are 1 to 2 tsf of fenugreek seeds,2 inches piece of ginger grated, 1 tsf of turmeric( yellow spice),1 tsf of Celtic salt,
1 tsf of fresh ground black pepper, 1 small chopped jalapeño pepper if you like the heat of the jalapeno,1 bay leaf,1/2 tsf cumin seeds, bunch of fresh cilantro leaves, chopped and washed.

In a big soup pot I put olive oil and warm it up and add 1/2 tsf of cumin seeds to the oil. They will crackle, then add chopped or minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped onion. Mix the above with a big spoon and let it cook for 5 minutes.
Then add chopped washed mushrooms and chopped bell pepper of any color and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes on medium heat slowly stirring every so often so onions don't stick to bottom.
Now add the zucchini cut in big pieces or circles and cook further another 5 minutes.
Now add the 46 oz V 8 vegetable juice the whole bottle or 3/4 th of it and let the contents boil on slow heat .Add Celtic salt and bay leaf ,tsf of turmeric powder and ground black pepper, and let the mix simmer.
Open the garbanzo bean can and discard water from can. Wash the beans in fresh warm water and add to our simmering soup mix.
We can add 2 cans of beans if like the soup thicker.
Add a bay leaf and chopped cilantro leaves along with stems.
Voila! Soup is ready.
This soup has all ingredients to keep you warm and healthy.
The original recipe has been modified to make it more health friendly using herbs.
I am vegetarian so I am going to keep it as is.
Instead of zuccini, butternut squash or sweet potato can be added.
A dollop of plain non fat yogurt can be added to the top of soup after serving in the individual soup bowl.

Sugar,really sweet or a poison

Oh boy!Do we love ice cream ,soda, cake, donuts, pies candy, cotton candy and more.
I am going to throw some facts in case one was not aware.
Did you know that an average American consumes 22.7 teaspoons of sugar a day.
One tsf of sugar is 4.2 gms.
Did u know a can of cola  12 oz has 7.93tsf of sugar.
Table sugar is equal amounts of sucrose is composed of equal amounts of glucose and fructose.
Fructose is the sugar one finds in fruit.
Fructose gives the sweet taste of sugar.
High fructose corn syrup or HFCSis also a mix of fructose and glucose,55% and45%.
Glucose is metabolized by cells all through the body, fructose is processed primarily in liver and forms fats called triglycerides.

Home remedy for arthritis

Do you know how common is arthritic pain?
Talk about knee pain, foot pain, back pain, shoulder pain, foot pain ,hip pain, hand pain and so on.
We all are familiar with NSAIDs,steroids, aspercreme, and braces.
I am going to talk about few non toxic or harmless food cures ,raisins soaked in Gin or apple cider vinegar, and curcumin, the natural anti inflammatory.
Today is the day of Raisins.
I read this from people's pharmacy info.Peoples pharmacy.com.Pharmacist Joe Graedon writes that eating 9 golden raisins a day soaked in gin or apple cider vinegar has helped lot of his patients.
Making the raisinsin gin is easy.
Take hand ful of golden raisins, not the brown raisins.these golden raisins in the box will say so2 added to preserve freshness.
Put these raisins in a bowl.and add good quality gin until raisins are submerged.
Cover the dish witha towel or cheese cloth so that alcohol can evaporate as raisins absorb the liquid.
When the liquid is no longer visible, after about 5 days store the raisins in a closed jar at room temperature.
The reason for this effect is the golden raisins are dried mechanically.
Sulfur dioxide gas is used during this process to prevent oxidation and caramelization.
Ethanol alcohol has been used as a solvent In lot of herbal preps.
Why is gin used and not vodka or brandy?
Distilled Gin is made with juniper berries which have anti inflammatory properties.
Do not use cheap brands with synthetic flavorings.
People allergic to sulpha can not use this remedy.
More is coming on Curcumin in the next blog.

Nutritional yeast

RED STAR® Nutritional Yeast is NOT brewer's yeast, a by-product of the brewing industry that has an inferior nutritional profile compared to primary-grown yeast and that must be further processed to remove the bitter taste of hops. Many people find that nutritional yeast has a smoother, more "cheesy" taste than brewer's yeast, which tends to be bitter even after processing. Additionally, because nutritional yeast does not come in contact with barley (like brewer's yeast), it is gluten-free and safe for people with Celiac disease.

Nutritional yeast is NOT torula yeast, a by-product of paper mill waste streams obtained by growing Pichia jadinii on wood sugars.

Nutritional yeast is NOT dairy yeast, or whey yeast, which is obtained by growing Kluyveromyces marxianus using cheese whey or whey permeate. Therefore, it is safe for people with dairy allergies.

Nutritional yeast is NOT an active baking or brewing yeast. It is an inactive yeast grown expressly for its nutritional components.

Nutritional yeast is NOT a genetically modified organism (GMO), unlike some yeast that are used in baking and beer and wine production.
WHAT IS YEAST?Nutritional yeast from red star co website

Yeast are single-celled fungi. As fungi, they are related to other fungi that people are more familiar with, including: edible mushrooms available at the supermarket, common baker's yeast used to leaven bread, common brewer's yeast used to ferment beer, molds that ripen blue cheese, and molds that produce antibiotics for medical and veterinary use. Many consider edible yeast and fungi to be as natural as fruits and vegetables.

WHAT IS PRIMARY-GROWN NUTRITIONAL YEAST?

Primary-grown yeast is cultivated expressly for its nutritional components, rather than being the by-product of another industry such as brewing. Lesaffre derives its primary-grown nutritional yeast from pure strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae grown on a purified nutrient source designed specifically for yeast. After the fermentation process is complete, the yeast is harvested, thoroughly washed, pasteurized and dried on roller drum dryers. The special growth medium and unique drying process are the secrets to the exceptional performance and flavor of RED STAR® Nutritional Yeast.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRIMARY-GROWN NUTRITIONAL YEAST?

Red Star® primary-grown nutritional yeast is an excellent source of protein, containing an average of 50% protein by weight. Its amino acid profile is complementary to that of grains and legumes such as corn, wheat and soy. In addition, Red Star Nutritional Yeast is a rich source of dietary fiber and contains a wealth of vitamins and minerals, particularly the B vitamins. And since RED STAR Nutritional Yeast tastes great, you'll enjoy adding it to your favorite meals, drinks and snacks.

In addition, Red Star Nutritional Yeast contains other beneficial components, such as beta-1,3 glucan and mannan, complex carbohydrates known to improve the immune response and help maintain cholesterol levels that are already within a healthy range; trehalose, a disaccharide that helps maintain the health of brain cells; and glutathione, an antioxidant that plays an important role in cellular defense mechanisms.* Red Star Nutritional Yeast contains approximately 2.5 mg. of glutathione per gram of yeast.

Nutritional yeast is a "perfect food," packed with nutrition, yet naturally low in fat and salt. Red Star Nutritional Yeast contains no added preservatives, flavors or colors and is naturally gluten-free.

Primary Benefits:

A "super" food, providing nutrition and enhancing flavor in your favorite meals, drinks and snacks
An excellent source of protein, containing essential and non-essential amino acids
Rich in B-complex vitamins, which are important for energy production
A natural source of additional beneficial components, such as beta-1,3 glucan and mannan, trehalose and glutathione
Naturally low in fat and salt, with no added preservatives, flavors or colors
Kosher certified (excluding Passover)
Naturally gluten-free
WHY IS PRIMARY-GROWN NUTRITIONAL YEAST DIFFERENT?

Primary-grown nutritional yeast is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a natural way to increase their intake of nutrients. Primary-grown nutritional yeast has a superior nutritional profile and is less processed than yeast that has been recovered as a by-product of other industries, such as brewing.
Friends, this was the best info from Red Star website, pretty comprehensive.
Nutritional yeast can be added to homemade smoothies.

Cruciferous vegetables

I can't sing enough of the cruciferous vegetables glory. As much I have read and studied the health benefits of vegetables, this Broccoli clan comes to my mind all the time.
John Hopkins Uni,Linus Pauling Institute have published lot of research papers on health benefits of these in preventing cancer specially Breast cancer ,lung cancer, prostate cancer.
Let us see the various vegetables in the group,
Arugula,broccoli,broccolini,broccoli rabe,cabbage ,bok choy, cauliflower,Brussels sprouts,red cabbage,Mache,mustard greens,collards,horse radish,Kale,turnip greens ,kohlrabi ,rutabaga,radish,
Watercress.I think I got them all. They  get their name from the shape of petals which are placed like the Holy Cross.
The health benefits come from compounds called Glucosinolates.Chopping ,cutting, blending convert
Glucosinolates to isothiocyanates ,Indole 3 carbinol. The glucosinolates give the group its sulphur like pungent smell.Cooking reduces the amount of glucosinolates.they have also found out that an enzyme produced on cutting or chopping these vegetables, called Myrosinase is produced that converts glucosinolates to Isothiocyanates.
A few simple tips on using some of this raw,are making my favorite Call of Kale smoothie using water, kale ,green grapes ,avocado ,banana.
A few pieces of raw broccoli can be added to any fruit smoothie.
Arugula, watercress,mâché,cabbage radish make good salads on their own.
I have used red cabbage in eating lettuce wraps or in Thai crunch salads.
The only downside I have ever read is excessive consumption may cause  hypothyroidism.
Let us be realistic,as to how much of these we may be consuming to really have this side effect, probably never.
Enjoy to derive health benefits of this great group.

Dietary flavonoids abundant in plant based foods has been shown to improve cognitive function.
Asubclass of flavonoids, called flavonols are present in cocoa, green tea,red wine and some fruits.
Data on chocolate consumtion was obtained from chocosuisse,theobroma-cacao,caobisco.com.
The darker the chocolate the better the health benefits.
